The Strategic Sourcing Matrix quadrants’ characteristics

Some time ago, I’ve published a template to help you out positioning a SG (Sourcing Group) into the Strategic Sourcing’s 4-quadrant Matrix (I call it as well the CSSB matrix as ‘Commodity, Standard, Strategic, Bottleneck), based on the famous Porter’s 5-forces model. This template has the benefit to be easy to understand and to use. There is another way to map your Sourcing Groups into the CSSB matrix: mapping each SG against the generic but detailed characteristics of each quadrant. First difficulty is to get those characteristics, second to review your SG against those characteristics and to identify where the SG fits the best. Lucky you are, below is the magic table…first difficulty is gone!
