2 and 3 years ago, I did this exercice already; comparing the online footprint of leading Spend Management Solution vendors with Alexa. You’ll find below the update 2009 including for the first time Quadrem, Zycus, Hubwoo and MFG as I appreciate them belonging to the leading players. At the very bottom you’ll get additional information for the top 3 only: “how are they ranked around the world”.
Although I let you free to read those figures the way you want – this is the fun of it – here are my easy interpretations for the first top 6:
- MFG took the leadership of the Alexa ranking (based on traffic) as it is the closest to a very true eMarketplace. Interestingly enough its top 3 markets (in terms of online traffic) include CHINA and USA as well as Norway!…don’t have a clue why actually…
- Ariba would have stayed #1 if I didn’t include MFG; Ariba leads the US market and shows good average in Europe without making the difference. The number of sites linking in” is amazing compared to others which might underline a very good marketing.
- Zycus has done an impressive breakthrough within 2 years, jumping directly at the 3rd position. It’s traffic markets are still limited to India and US very much though.
- BravoSolution climbed the best the ladder and reached the 4th position. Very strong in Italy (the Best!), better than Ariba in France, UK or Marocco but is desperately behind in the USA despite the acquisition of VerticalNet.
- Frictionless stays stable more or less, although the website is a direct ‘redirection’ to SAP website.
- Perfect felt to #6. Their presence and marketing efforts look to me much lower than the former players and might explain this situation.
